The bed is calling my name, but I do want to let everyone know that the surgery went well on Thursday, and after 2 nights in the ICU, Peyton was moved to a regular floor room today. She has been feeling much better today than she has been the past 2 days. Mommy and Daddy got her a new toy and balloon today while she took a nap, and the toy was a big hit! When the doctors had to come in and do their exam, all you had to do was show her the toy, and her mind was on the toy and not what they were doing! She will have another surprise when we get home...she deserves it! She is the strongest, toughest baby I know! She is doing such a good job! I will try and post more tomorrow! Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-39635945822357934292011-02-01T17:33:00.000-08:002011-02-01T17:33:07.839-08:00Peyton Driving to Cincinnati...Oh, and here is a pic of Peyton taking over the wheel for mommy and daddy...
I know so dorky...but seriously...Peyton loves to hear her own voice. And Lord, if she has her zebra blanket (you know the one's with the little animal heads) she is going to let it know who is boss. =) She is having some teething issues too...her gums have been bothering her a bit, and the zebra blanket also catches the brunt of all her drool. We have definitely been enjoying some good playtime before we have to go the hospital tomorrow. Last night we stayed just north of Nashville in Hendersonville. It was nice getting some of the drive out of the way. And this morning we left there at about 10:15 and were on the road again. And so glad we left when we did! We were passing patches of snow on the side of the road, and when we were almost to our hotel it was starting to rain. It is supposed to snow tomorrow, and I think the high for Thursday is supposed to be 27....27 people!! Isn't that like the low in Mississippi most of the time? Oh well, this is all for Peyton! I wish it were warmer though because the hotel we are staying in is in Newport, Kentucky, just over the bridge from Cincinnati, and it is on the water. I would love to let her see it, but I can barely handle this cold, and I certainly am not bringing this little bitty outside! Tomorrow we will have to be at the hospital at 10, and at some point tomorrow, still unsure exactly about the time, she will have a cardiology appointment for another Echo. We gotta get everything checked out before her surgery! But...I will keep everyone posted with another blog post tomorrow! Gosh I know it has been forever and a day since I last posted on this blog, and I am bound and determined to change that! A lot has gone on since I last posted. About a week after we got home from Peyton's follow up in Cincinnati in November, Peyton decided that she did not want her feeding tube anymore. Ever since then we have been without it. It makes things a lot easier, especially when she gets crazy with those hands...she's a wild woman. And because she is a wild woman, feeding her can still be difficult, but manageable once you figure out what works for her. December came and went so quick and before you knew it, we were in a new year, but first stop Christmas. Peyton enjoyed her first Christmas very much. We spent Christmas Eve at my parents house (Nanny and Poppa G) and Christmas day with Allen's (DeeDee and Granddaddy). She watched and maybe grabbed a piece of wrapping paper here and there, but I cannot wait until this Christmas when she can really dig in. So the Christmas holiday passed, and the Wednesday after Christmas, I went back to work. Can you believe how phenomenal the people I work for are? I was able to stay home with Peyton that whole time, and take care of her to get her to where she is today. It has been really great getting back to work and seeing all my fellow co-workers everyday. They are amazing people. It is also nice seeing my customers come in and ask how Peyton is doing and want to see pictures. But back to Peyton...

Peyton has been doing all sorts of new things. She rolls, attempts to crawl, and can hold her head really well. We have been attempting solids, and all we have attempted so far is rice cereal, oatmeal with banana, and pears. Sweet potatos will be our next stop. However, even though we have been working on the solids thing, doesn't mean she really eats a whole lot of it. She has learned how to blow spit bubbles, turn her head, and puff her cheeks up. This makes it a lot of fun. That's ok...she'll get it one day. I just can't believe that in about 2 weeks our sweet baby girl will be 6 months old...where has the time gone? And just to think that we weren't even sure how the outcome was going to be in August. She has just come such a long way...she is a strong baby and we are just so blessed.

We will be returning to Cincinnati starting tomorrow morning. We will be driving some tomorrow and some Tuesday, and Peyton will be admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. She is having surgery on Thursday to close her fascia. This is the little muscle layer right under the skin. It could not be completely closed when she had her diaphragm repaired because when they pushed everything back down..stomach, intestines, her tummy was just so small, and the pressure would have been too much. I have no doubt that she will handle this just as well. God has taken care of this family to this point, and I have faith that he will continue to keep his hand over us. She shouldn't be in Cincinnati long, we will be discharged the following week, however, please keep our sweet baby in your prayers! Everyone has been sooooo supportive, and once again THANK YOU!! I will keep everyone updated! Promise! Love yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-11882522067430826142010-11-24T19:39:00.000-08:002010-11-24T19:39:21.827-08:00Thankful!So I know I haven't blogged in a while, but tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I have a lot to be thankful for.

I am so thankful for my precious little miracle baby, Peyton. The journey with her has been a challenge, but a challenge I am greatful for everyday. So just a little update on her... we took her to Cincinati last week for a visit. She is 11 lb. 3 oz and 23 inches long. Developmentally she is where she needs to be, and they were very pleased with how she looked. We are still facing feeding challenges, but I have full confidence that she will get the hang of it. We want a chunky baby!! A few of Peyton's favorite things right now are (at the top of the list for sure) - eating her hands, tv (it fascinates her), and smiling big smiles and talking to mommy and daddy!

I am also so thankful for all of our friends and family who have given us comfort and support through-out it all. We are so blessed! I couldn't ask for more amazing people in our lives.

I am so thankful for all of the incredible doctors and nurses who have taken care of and continue to take care of Peyton. What would we do without you?!

I am also thankful for a wonderful husband. I couldn't ask for a better friend, and someone to share my life with.

I am thankful for the roof over our heads and the food on our table. Not everyone is as fortunate to have this.

And most importantly, I am thankful to God for making all of these things possible in my life. Without him, I would not have all of these wonderful things!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL! Love yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-23134118361826601172010-10-17T19:48:00.000-07:002010-10-17T19:48:35.264-07:00A Week at Home...Sorry I haven't blogged in a while! So let me begin from discharge...Peyton was discharged from Children's at the beginning of the week. She handled the looooong car trip home very well...I almost think she handled it better than I did. When we got home late, we laid her in her crib and the first thing she did was throw those hands over her head and kick those legs straight out. She was happy to be home and happy to be out of that carseat! So then it all began...Allen and I have come to know what tired really means this week. Don't get me wrong, I was tired in Cincinnati, I was emotionally tired as well, but this is a completely different kind of tired..ha! I think we have started getting used to it a bit though as we work out who does what when. But even though we are tired, there is no better feeling than the feeling of being home and taking care of Peyton. She is such a sweet little girl. We also went to the doctor on Friday for a follow up at home and to get her 2-month shots. Now, Peyton has been through a lot...surgery, etc...but...those shots were definitely something she was not fond of. She let out the biggest cry when she got the 2nd one. She stopped very quickly though as soon as she realized it was over, and she took her pacy. She let out another big cry like this Saturday...Allen had gone to the store to go get propane for the grill. I proceeded to feed her, when all of a sudden she decided to have a diaper explosion. I had to put missy in the tub and clean her off. Well, when I got her out of the tub, I had to take her bandaid from the shot off, and my goodness, you would have thought she was getting another shot! And just as she is crying out...who walks back in the door...Allen. He just said, "What are you doing to her?!" It was pretty funny. Peyton still has her feeding tube, but it doing well with taking a bottle. Whatever she does not take, we put it in the feeding tube. Hopefully, we can have her eating without that thing pretty soon! I will say the nice feature of the tube is that, when she has meds I have to give her, I can just put it in the tube if she is sleeping...very nice. We will still have to go back up in November for a follow up appointment, and in December for another small surgery to close the muscle back up all the way under her skin. This surgery is not as invasive as the previous. Her tummy was just so small that when they did the first surgery and pushed everything down, it would have created too much pressure to close that muscle all the way. So now.... there are some thank yous that we want to say. First, we want to thank God. He has guided Peyton through this whole process and held her precious self in His arms as she has continued to heal and grow. We want to thank both of our families. Both of our parents have been there for us the whole way and have been a wonderful support system. To Allen's parents, thank you for helping us make the trip home (with all our STUFF!) and to My parents, thank you for stocking our kitchen for us, and cleaning up our house to make it shine! Our extended families as well, have done nothing but just be there for us in our time of need. To all our friends, that have helped us out whether it be a gift, a kind word, or just a silent prayer that you may have said for us...thank you so much. For all of those who collected can tabs for us to donate to The Ronald McDonald House...thank you! The last group of tabs we got came from Kosciusko Lower Elementary and South Leake for a combined total of 111.5 lbs...absolutely amazing. And also, from Annalee Patrick and her mother Cindy Rice's school...for a total of 26 lbs...just wonderful. To both Allen's employer, Shelter Insurance and my employer, Lemon Mohler Insurance, thank you so much for being so supportive and understanding of our situation. You have made caring for our little one easy without the stress of worrying about our job. To all the families at The Ronald McDonald House that I met during our stay there, it was so wonderful meeting you, and will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. And finally...to all of Peyton's wonderful doctors, surgeons, and nurses. You are just miraculous people. Our experience at Cincinnati Children's has been wonderful. You can tell that you sincerely love what you do just by how much you care. Peyton was blessed to have such amazing people taking care of her. To Everyone...THANK YOU!! Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-48013199929125255112010-10-04T20:23:00.000-07:002010-10-04T20:23:04.357-07:00The BIG NewsWell this is what we have been working for...the big news that our little one is ready to come home to Mississippi! Today during rounds, the doctors set a date for discharge as being a week from today...just one day shy of her 2 month birthday!! Next Monday, we will be making the journey back home to Mississippi (unless, of course she pulls any funny business!) Of course, we will not let Peyton in on this little secret because last time we had a date set like this (her first surgery date) we had to move it because she got the skin infection the same day...I swear it was because she heard us talking about surgery. She has just been taking the feeding thing so well. She has gotten the hang of all that she needs to do for the most part, it's just the endurance part that she is still working on...she gets wore out. She has the look at the end of taking a bottle like, "Whoa, that was so good, but man is that hard work!" She just continues to amaze me everyday...she is such a miracle! I just want to thank everyone again for all their prayers and wonderful, wonderful support. Without all this, I do not believe that we would have been able to get through these past 2 months! It has meant soooo much to us to have people standing behind us this whole way. And, if anyone did not believe in the power of prayer before, say hello to Peyton! God definitely has a plan for this special little girl! I cannot wait to see everyone...it has been a while! Until next time...Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-22814586436626960472010-09-29T16:29:00.000-07:002010-09-29T16:29:53.285-07:00New Post!!Sooorry everyone...someone needs to get on to me when I don't update this blog! =) Peyton is now in a big girl room! She got moved back to the "B" pod on Friday. I am pretty sure she is enjoying it very much...she gets much better sleep back there, and I am pretty sure she is getting herself on a schedule. And speaking of schedules, we are now getting missy on a bath schedule. For a while there, she was the stinky kid in the pod, but with her skin infection that she had and then surgery, we couldn't really give her too many baths...but now she's shining! It's so funny too...yesterday, I was giving her a bath, and she was just talking to me (she has started cooing!!). I really think she enjoys them. We have been weaning her medicine for hypertension...her echo looked great! Also, Peyton is not on the oxygen anymore! The only tube coming out of that sweet baby's face is a feeding tube from her nose (which usually mittens would be used to prevent babies from scratching, Peyton, however, gets to wear hers when she gets a little crazy with those hands...she can't be pulling that tube out!). She is continuing to receive feeds through her feeding tube to her intestine, but we have been working with her on taking a bottle...she did sooo great this afternoon! I am just so proud of her! She is such a strong little girl. Peyton has come a long way, and she just looks so great. I just can't wait to bring her home and show her off! I miss everyone very much, but I do know that I am here for a great and miraculous reason! Love yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-77704507420801473752010-09-23T20:51:00.000-07:002010-09-23T20:51:21.906-07:00Update!Hey Everyone! Sorry it's been a few days, but Peyton is doing great! So last time I blogged Peyton had come off of the ventilator. Sunday, they began feeding her milk! This is a process because sometimes these kidos can have some bad acid reflux. They have been giving her continous feeds through a feeding tube that goes down to her intestine. She has been doing great with this and they continue to increase her feeds. Now, the real test will come probably sometime next week when they pull back to her stomach. We will be able to see how this reflux issue actually is. In the meantime, we have also been working with Peyton with the occupational and speech therapists on the taste and smell of milk by giving her little drops on her hands and pacy. She is doing well with this too! I think she likes actually getting something out of sucking on her pacy! I don't blame her! Also, they have stopped her nitric...this was for her hypertension, and she is just on a by mouth medicine. Her echo will be tomorrow to see if her hypertension has improved more. She just has the oxygen through her nose right now, but will probably not need it much longer! Hopefully this will be gone tomorrow too! She is just a little rockstar! She says she is ready to get her little booty home! She's ready to see her house! We are also now on the list for the "B - pod." These are like private rooms that are like a transition to home kind of room. There are still nurses back there, but it's more homey. There is a tv and chair that pulls out to a bed, and a private bathroom. So excited! And speaking of excited, we were so excited when Peyton was just smiling and looking all around today. She was just so happy today. It was so sweet...Allen was on one side of her crib and just looked down at her, and she kind of did this little shy smile. She put her head down and just grinned! It was so sweet! Goodness, I hope I'm not leaving anything out...a lot has happened in a week, if I did leave something out, I will be sure to update everyone again sooner! Oh yeah, and I have my 6-week follow up appointment for me tomorrow...hope all goes well! Miss everyone back home! Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-89962529393519077122010-09-18T20:29:00.000-07:002010-09-18T20:29:36.343-07:00More Big News!Peyton has had a busy couple of days! The other day we put her sleep sheep in her bed (it makes noises like the ocean, heartbeat, rain, etc). She was looking at the sheep like it was an alien. She was staring it down like, "what are you doing in my bed?" It was too cute. She was not so sure what to make about her new friend. Yesterday, we put clothes on her for the first time....sooooooo precious. We told her that she had to get used to wearing some clothes...she can't be nakey forever! And then today, the biggest news of all...Peyton was taken off of her ventilator!!! She was very happy to have that tube out of her mouth. Even though we do not want her to cry and be upset, it was soooo good to hear her little cry. She is just a doll. Today she jerked her head up too like she was trying to do it on her own. She is just thinking she's a big girl now...I swear, take one little tube out, and she is all grown up! They will soon start feeds, and we pray that all goes well with this. It was also nice to have a little down time to myself today thanks to Mr. Danny, Mrs. Debbie, and Kaitlyn. I enjoyed getting my hair done with the gift certificate that yall gave me! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! So it has been a few days since I last updated this, but Peyton continues to do well! They have been weening her inhaled medicine (flolan) for her hypertension down, and have the intentions of her being completely off of it by Thursday, and getting another echo of her heart on Thursday as well. The echo post-op looked good so we are hoping for continued improvement. Peyton opened up her eyes on Monday night for the first time since she had surgery on Friday. They had to keep her pretty out so that she was comfortable and had time to recooperate. But I tell you, when she is awake, she is awake and curious! I don't know how she does it! She was wide awake again last night, and she stays awake for a good while even being on pain medicine and sedation medicine. That makes me worry...lord, what's she going to be like when we bring her home and she's not even on those medicines anymore? =) It is so cute though because she will try to fight it so hard...she will be dozing off, and then it's like she realizes she is and she opens those eyes so big again just to let them fall again. She has also discovered that she has an ear. She was wearing that thing out last night! Ha! So now for the big news!! Allen and I got to hold Peyton for the first time yesterday! It was the best feeling ever! She is so sweet and tiny...we just held her and rocked her in the chair. She definitely enjoyed it...I'm sure it was a good change of pace from being in her bed. Allen and I are going to have to learn how to share her...haha...we are just so excited though, and both just want to hold her all day long! Anyways, on the way to see that sweet baby now! Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-13967895144045877102010-09-11T11:31:00.000-07:002010-09-11T11:31:56.877-07:00Peyton's SurgeryWe are so pleased to let everyone know that Peyton's surgery went very well...actually, it went better than expected. Yesterday, Allen and I got to the hospital bright and early to spend some time with Peyton before surgery. She was taken back around 8:25, and Allen and I anxiously waited in the waiting room to hear news here and there and to wait to hear from the doctor that surgery was complete. Around 2:15, the doctor came out to talk to us and let us know that she did very well and that she actually had more lung on the left side than anticipated. Peyton had what only a few percent of CDH babies have. She had a hernia sack. The hernia sack is translucent (so this could not be seen until the doctor actually got in there during surgery). What this did was keep the intestines and all kind of separated, and kept it from attaching to the lung and causing scar tissue to the lung. It is just amazing. Some of the nurses said that they had not even seen a patient with one of these sacks. Last night, when we looked at the chest x-ray from post-op, it was just incredible. The lung on the left side is occupying pretty much the entire side, just like any normal lung. After that hernia was fixed, it just went right where it was supposed to. This hernia sack was truly an answer to prayer. Each nurse is just astonished at the amount of lung volume considering what was known before surgery. We just have to believe that all of yall's prayers have had something to do with this hernia sack. We know Peyton is still on the road to recovery, but this is one big step behind us, and everyone's thoughts and prayers have been much appreciated and they definitely have been heard. Allen and I are just overjoyed with how well everything has turned out with surgery. Please just continue to keep Peyton in your prayers for a good and speedy recovery, so we can bring this beautiful baby home for everyone to see! Thanks for all your support! The skin infection that she had is like a sunburn so when it is coming to an end the top layer of skin peels. She has been shedding her layer! So now that her skin infection has cleared up they have set the surgery for tomorrow morning! Tomorrow is it! It is time to get repaired and move on to the next step and new challenges. I will keep everyone posted tomorrow once she has made it out of surgery and all. Please keep Peyton in your prayers as she faces the big day tomorrow. Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-7626275593855745222010-09-06T12:40:00.000-07:002010-09-06T12:40:52.652-07:00Can Tabs, Mississippi State, New Picc...Wow...so thanks to everyone for the can tabs!! Mrs.Debbie and Mr.Danny brought 95 pounds of can tabs from Kosciusko! That is just amazing! We were asking the workers at The Ronald McDonald House about this, and he said that every pound is about 1200 tabs! That makes it 114,000 can tabs! The support is just phenomenal! Peyton is also styling in her new Mississippi State bootie socks from Aunt Hannah and Uncle Gary. We put these on her Saturday, and I am pretty sure the newest little bulldog fan brought them some good luck! They looked good Saturday...hope they can keep it up. You better believe little missy will have those little socks on for every game! She also has a Mississippi State paper fan that says "Dawg Lover" posted on her bulletin board next to her bed. The nurses and doctors definitely know where we're from... =) Yesterday, Peyton had to get a new Picc line in her arm. This is a line that all her meds and everything goes through. The one she has on her right arm has to be taken out so that the skin can heal on that side from her skin infection. Unfortunately, she was being stingy with her veins yesterday...she did not want to get poked so she was hiding them! Today, a new picc nurse (they have special nurses just for this!) to come and try to see if she could get a line in...and she sure did! Peyton behaved for the most part too...of course they gave her some meds to sedate her so they could do what they needed to do....otherwise, she would be trying to box the nurses with those arms. Tomorrow will be the echo of the heart again..hopefully, everything will still be good with that and maybe we can start talking surgery again. Oh yeah, and her weight is up again...7 lbs 5 ounces. Of course, this number goes up and down some, but little missy is plumping up nicely! Guess that's all for now! Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-54397325018058770722010-09-02T18:21:00.000-07:002010-09-02T18:21:43.259-07:00Strong Baby!Peyton's skin infection is looking better and better everyday! She is such a strong girl. Allen and I put her first hair bow in today...she's lookin good. Dad is learning quick that he is going to have to make sure she's got that bow in her hair to match her outfit. I'll post that picture on here soon. Also, this afternoon, one of Peyton's best friends was born. One of my best friend's Annalee Patrick, had her little girl, MaryCollis. Peyton and MaryCollis already know all about each other! I am just so excited for Annalee and her husband Chad on their new addition. I was telling her last night that even though I haven't even been able to hold her yet, the feeling is like no other...Oh Lord, can you imagine what it's going to be like when we can hold her. She's going to have Allen and I wrapped...pretty sure she already does! Well, I guess that's all for tonight..on the way to visit Peyton and read her a nighttime story and say her goodnight prayer! Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-16677024597839646522010-08-31T18:52:00.000-07:002010-08-31T18:52:30.665-07:00Surgery...Peyton's echo of her heart was good! Her hypertension had gone down to where it needed to be for her surgery. At rounds today, we were getting excited because they said that they would do the surgery on Thursday. However, Peyton developed a skin infection. The infection is like little red marks on the skin that peels off. It is not everywhere, just in a couple of different places. It is kind of like a sunburn. This is something that happens from time to time in CDH babies, and even babies that do not have CDH. This has pushed her surgery back though. It will be 1 1/2 to 2 weeks out if it clears up. She was started on an antibiotic that has to run its course for 7 days. Although Allen and I were disappointed because WE are so ready for her surgery so we can start working towards other things, it's not up to us, it is up to Peyton and when SHE is ready. Peyton has to bring her best game face when she heads to surgery, and if its not now, its not now. Everything happens for a reason, and we will not be given anything that we can't handle. Let's just hope and pray that her infection doesn't get any worse, usually you will see the worst of it within the first 24 hours. I will definitely keep everyone updated through the course of this. Love Yall!Shannon & Allen Howellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08592149621321405391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700277661556038776.post-77693333735004334382010-08-29T17:29:00.000-07:002010-08-29T17:29:25.417-07:00Anxious...So this weekend has been pretty calm for the most part....thank goodness. Tomorrow is the big day. Her Echo of her heart is in the morning to check and see if her pulmonary hypertension has gone down more. If so, they will talk a surgery date. We are just hoping and praying that it has gone down some more. I know she will just feel so much better when she doesn't have anyting pressing on those little lungs anymore. It's kind of like that feeling you have the night before Christmas...just so anxious. It would be the best "present" ever if she were ready tomorrow. If she's not, that's okay too. We want her to be in the best possible shape before we send her into surgery. Little missy has been able to go longer periods without getting more dosage of sedation. We have been able to see her pretty little eyes and she has just been stretching out that long little body of hers. Oh...the nurse also said that she took her paci this morning! Of course, she does that when we weren't there yet. Hopefully I will have some more news to post tomorrow! We got to the NICU this morning and did our usual...read a story to her and just hung out...the doctors came around for their rounds around 11:30 and then it was time! Peyton got her first bath today! We didn't want to over stimulate her in the beginning, and she has been pretty steady so it was okay to give her one. Allen and I wiped her down with washcloths and soap, washed her hair amd brushed it, and clipped her little fingernails. Oh, and Allen got to change his first poopy diaper today!! She enjoyed being massaged with lotion too after her bath. She looks better now...we even changed the quilt on her bed. She is just a growing too...her cheeks are even filling out a bit. She is weighing in at 6 pounds 9 1/2 ounces! It was so exciting giving her a bath and taking care of her! I'll have to post the pictures soon of her bath. We have turned into those parents taking a picture of her every move! =) I also heard from Mrs.Debbie Howell that we have over 50 pounds of can tabs waiting for us in Kosciusko. That is just so amazing! I just want to thank everyone for their help in collecting these. It is so thoughtful, and Allen and I can't thank you enough! They let Allen pick her up and measure her. I will have to put the picture of this up soon. It was so cute. He looked a little nervous in the picture picking her up. I said, "Look at that face you are making!" He said, "Well, you should have seen the face SHE was making!" Also, after her blood transfusion, she was feeling much better. She looked a lot pinker and her swelling had gone down so much when we saw her Monday morning (they were giving her medicine for the edema). Monday, Peyton also had an Echo of her heart done. It looked better than the last Echo. She is headed in the right direction. She is no longer super-systemic at 180%. She is just systemic at 100%. This is all in relation to her pulmonary hypertension. The doctors would like to have her at 80% systemic before they do her surgery for repair. They uped her flonan to help this go down some more. They will repeat the Echo on Friday and hopefully we can get her in to surgery by next week. It is still uncertain though...it could be longer. It will just depend on little miss. We have been reading to her everyday, and I know she knows that mommy and daddy are right there for her! It will be so nice though when she is actually able to open her eyes, and not be so sedated. Every now and again she will get one of those eyes, but 99% of the time they are closed. Please just keep lifting Peyton up in your prayers! I just wanted to thank her for being here with me in the time I had to be up here before the baby, and the time after where I was having some trouble getting around. Allen and I both really appreciate it. I know my dad and brother are both excited about having her home though. Yesterday Peyton had a good day. She remained calm and restful all day. Today has had a little more excitement. Peyton is having a small blood transfusion because her red blood count was down slightly. It was very slight, and if she wasn't acting up a bit when they turn her head and use the suction, they probably wouldn't even do one. They just want to do everything they possibly can to make sure she is comfy. The count was most likely down because they have to do tests a lot that require blood from her. Everytime they do a blood gas to check her CO2 they take some blood, and they could do this a couple of times a day. She was definitely being a trooper today though. She was handling it very well. They said that transfusions are very common and not out of the ordinary in the NICU. She is one tough cookie! Allen and I just came back over to the Ronald McDonald House to rest for a bit and are going to eat dinner here tonight (fried chicken...yum!) before we head back over tonight to go check on her! Tomorrow is the echo, and we are both hoping that the medicine that they have been giving her for her hypertension is starting to help. They did go up on her sedation medicine just a tad. They just want to make sure she is as comfortable as possible and relaxing. This way the flolan and other things they are doing to get her hypertension down will be able to do what they need to do. Now, I titled this blog post smart girl for a reason. That little stinker has figured out that if she raises her mouth like she is smiling she can manipulate her repogle (the thing in her mouth that suctions out her secretions to decompress her) to be pushed out of her mouth. Can you believe that? 1 week old...baby genius. Other than that, I had a doctor's appointment today to check my incision. The doctor said that it was healing very well. He got the rest of the steri-strips off and said that glue will come off with time. They had me done up very well...they had stiched, used dura-bond (glue), and then used steri-strips. I've been doing more walking, and although I know this is very good for my healing process, it is wearing me out! All will be better in time though! My next appointment will be in 4 weeks. Guess that is all for today...Oh, and no echo for Peyton this weekend. There will just be one on Monday.
